SUMMARY: Because almost all of our student body consists of mid-to-late career professionals, most have gained enormous knowledge and skills over the years. Saint James College is one of a very few colleges that will give you academic credit for what you already know. (See the New York State Board of Regents' "Empire State College" program as a fine historical example of this education style.)

  We give incoming degree students a series of short "Challenge Courses," or review lessons. There is some new material, coupled with data relevant to the course. For example, an MBA student who's worked in management and administration for several years will come to Saint James College with strong background in business theory and technique. This will be reflected in the "Challenge Course" curriculum. Yet, virtually all our students tell us that they also learn some new material, or see a previous concept in a new way.

When you successfully complete the short Knowledge Review quiz or brief essay at the end of each lesson or module, you are excused from having to "attend" classes for an entire semester. You are able to immediately progress to the next lesson in the series.

This format is ideal for the self-paced student who is effective and comfortable working in conjunction with a faculty mentor but who is unable or disinclined to study in a more traditional college setting.

Saint James College's independent study, distance-learning students work in the convenience of their homes, offices, etc., but have the potent advantage of being able to confer with professors and faculty mentors by email and telephone.
